Is it just the definitions found in a dictionary? I think not.
No, the ACLC community is much more.
It is a place where community and values are at the core.
Learners are empowered to create their destiny.
They get the tools to make a difference in the 21st century.
It is a place where we are free to think out of the box.
Where we do not feel pressured to be something we are not.
The Gettysburg Address says in part, “government of the people, by the people, for the people”.
That is how we do it at ACLC, where learners are not intimidated by any steeple.
We will utilize all of the resources that are available.
And be successful in the future and more than capable.
2012 Science Project - Bay Laurel Leaves and Weed Control
The purpose of my project was to determine if the concentration of Bay laurel leaf juice affects how fast weeds are killed. My hypothesis was the concentration would affect the growth because the greater the strength of the solution, the faster the weeds will die. The hypothesis was supported. In addition, the use of allelopathic plants, such as the Bay laurel leaf, is a much better option than using pesticides because they can contaminate our ground water.
Fall 2011 Learner-Led Conferences for New Learners (Time Management)
Organization System/Plan:
I believe that good organization and time management skills are important for success while in school and when you get a job.
My organization system starts with setting goals and making sure to review them often. When I am not in a seminar, I use my time to do assignments in advance or study for an upcoming test. I leave early every day and do not have project time and learning lab, but I make sure to set time at home to work on projects.
Organizational Tools Use:
My main organization tool is my planner. I take my planner to all of my seminars to make sure I keep track of when assignments, tests and quizzes are due. I keep my seminar handouts in a notebook that has separate folders for each seminar. I do not use a backpack, but my bag is organized with writing utensils, planner and my physics book. The organizational tools that help me to be prepared for my seminars are writing reminder notes in my planner on when assignments are due and when I should work on them, making sure I schedule time for study, and doing my work when I am at my best.
Organizational Proof:
One of the assignments I did that demonstrated my ability to manage my time and organize myself well was writing a college essay for Senior Seminar. I wrote the first draft and had one of my peers review it. After rewriting the essay, I had it reviewed a second time. The essay was turned in on time and I received a good grade.
